The Importance of Polarisation

For anyone conducting outdoor work, differentiating a polarised spec from a standard smoke or mirror coated spec will make a big difference in optical clarity and comfort.

The harsh Australian sun will inflict high levels of ultraviolet (UV) radiation on our eyes. When selecting a safety spec, taking vigilant action will reduce the risk of harmful optical conditions, like conjunctivitis or cataracts.

Force360 have built a safety spec range with a baseline UV protection level of 100% by constructing all specs out of UV400 polycarbonate. However, UV protection alone isn’t the only feature that makes a spec perfect for clear vision in summer conditions.

Every spec in the range is engineered to reduce optical risks in specific lighting conditions, making them ideal for different onsite applications.

What makes a Polarised lens perfect for your onsite application?

Polarised lens are different to typical UV lens. Unlike a standard UV lens, which protects your eyes and the area around them from harmful UV light, polarised lenses also eliminate blinding glare that causes visual discomfort in sunny conditions.

When the light becomes concentrated and very difficult to look at, this is referred to as blinding glare.

As light hits a flat surface, it either horizontally reflects off the surface or becomes polarised. Polarised lenses use this vertical filter to restrict horizontal light that appears as glare to the eye. During the production of a polarised lens, a chemical is laminated into the lens in a vertical pattern. This pattern reorganises the light that is horizontal to eliminate the glare.

By eliminating glare, polarised filters effectively improve colour rendition and visual clarity in extreme outdoor light conditions, making these specs ideal sunglasses for glare prone environments. Reduced eye strain, increased visual clarity, contrast and acuity, are common features of a polarised lens. By increasing contrast, objects with glare will develop clearer outlines and become more distinguishable.

Wearing a polarised spec installing reflective window panels or conducting waterside roadworks will cut through vision obstructing glare. Any site with highly reflective surfaces like glass and water are perfectly suited for polarised specs.

For Force360, polarised specs ultimately make the environments easier to navigate, increasing response time and onsite performance. For specs that are so much more than sunglasses look for these Force360 models.
